Online Dating Tips >
Hello fellow KenyaMatch.com Singles! Now that you have decided to take matters
into your own hands and give fate a nudge, there are a few things that we all need
to keep in mind.
The internet is a vast and sometimes tricky place, however it also wild and exciting.
Personal security while dealing with any kind of online transaction is very important.
Here are a few points for you guys to keep in mind if you're ever in doubt.
1> Telephone Numbers
Please guard your personal phone number unless you really know someone very
well, avoid giving it to just anyone or including it in your profile. If
you should fall hopelessly head over heels with someone, its best for you to call
them rather than giving out your number. This protects your anonymity.
2> Never give out your home address
If you live in a large city, you may give out the name of the city. Avoid
using email addresses which may indicate where you work. e.g.
Kamau@Kamau&Associates.com. If you want to communicate via e-mail with a
potential date, it's wise to set up another e-mail account such as Yahoo
mail or Hotmail.
3> Don't accept abuse
Here at KenyaMatch.com, we want your online experience to be a joyful one, so
don't under any circumstances respond to anyone who is rude, offensive,
abusive or in any way makes you feel uncomfortable. Sometimes people will
try and elicit a response that you are not comfortable with. If you
are not comfortable with anything someone writes to you, please just ignore
them and continue searching for a more suitable partner for you. Should
anyone continue to harass you, report it to the site administrator.
4> Don't exaggerate (too much)
While anonymity is important, it is not wise to lie and exaggerate yourself
on your profile. A good jolt of self esteem is good but lying about
ones age, weight and height is a bad way to start any kind of relationship.
Ladies, there is nothing wrong with hiding those few extra kilos you have
been trying to shed since last Christmas, just do it in a sensible manner :)
5> Photo, photo, photo
Another Important thing is your photo. A picture they say is 'worth a
thousand words'. This applies to both ladies and guys. It is very important to
have a picture on your profile, there are a lot of cyber cafes around (e.g. in Nairobi),
that offer picture scanning services. Invest in a nice picture. Ask a
friend help you choose a photo that most brings out your wonderful smile and
nature. VERY IMPORTANT!: Avoid those pictures taken 20 years ago at Uhuru
Park…. (Hahaha. You know the ones I mean). A recent photo of yourself is
much better.
6> Don't be shy, Specify!
Dont be afraid to specify what you are looking for. In your profile, write
exacly what you are looking for (eg. bald , short, green eyed). If you don't
specify, how will he/she know you are looking for them?
7> The first face-to-face meeting
When you finally decide to meet your "handsome heart-throb" or "drop dead gorgeous babe"
in person, meet in a public place, a place where that you are familiar with.
Avoid having your first meetings in private residential places and if possible,
bring a friend or buddy along.
8> Above all - relax, have fun and enjoy the experience
